Prayer times, athan, Qibla, and a Qur'an that follows your recitation.
Privacy Policy
Qanit (“the app”) helps you track Islamic prayer times, hear the athan, find the Qibla, and read and recite the Qur’an. We designed it to keep your data on your device wherever possible. This policy explains what the app accesses, why, and who it is shared with.
We do not require an account, we do not show ads, and we do not sell your personal information.
What the app accesses
Location
- Why: to calculate accurate prayer times and the Qibla direction for your position.
- How: your coordinates are used on your device to compute prayer times. To show a readable city name, your coordinates may be sent to your device’s operating-system geocoding service. You can also set your location manually instead of granting location access.
- Storage: your chosen location is stored locally on your device. We do not upload or retain your location on our servers.
Microphone and recitation audio (Recite mode)
Recite mode listens while you recite so the app can highlight your place in the sūrah. Audio is processed for transcription only while Recite mode is on, and entirely on your device by its built-in speech recognition (provided by Apple or Google) — this is governed by your device vendor’s privacy terms.
Recitation audio is used solely to follow your recitation. It is not sent to or stored on our servers, and is never used to build a profile of you.
Notifications
- Why: to alert you at prayer times (athan or a tone) and optional pre-prayer reminders.
- Notifications are scheduled on your device. Granting notification permission is optional; without it you simply won’t receive prayer alerts.
Exact alarms (Android)
- The app uses exact alarms so the athan sounds at the precise prayer time.
Qur’an content
When you view translations, tafsir, or stream recitation audio, the app requests that content from third-party Qur’an content providers (such as alquran.cloud and quran.com). These requests include the verse you are viewing but no personal information about you.
Third parties we share data with
- Apple / Google — device speech recognition (Recite mode); recitation audio is processed by your device’s own OS recognizer.
- Qur’an content providers (alquran.cloud, quran.com) — to fetch translations, tafsir, and audio.
- Your device’s geocoding service — to turn coordinates into a city name.
We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Data we do NOT collect
- We do not require or collect names, emails, or account credentials.
- We do not store your location, your audio, or your usage on our servers.
- We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Children
The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
Recitation audio is processed on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. The network requests the app does make (such as fetching Qur’an translations, tafsir, and audio) use encrypted connections (TLS).
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
